Big Bear winter ski season to open this week

Skiers and snowboarders won’t have to wait much longer to hit the slopes for the 2025-26 ski season in Big Bear.
According to officials from Big Bear Mountain Resort, ski season will begin Thursday at Bear Mountain and Friday at Snow Summit. A date has not yet been set for ski season to begin at Snow Valley, although tubing and general snow play will be available beginning over the weekend.
Chair 9 at Bear Mountain, which includes Upper Park, Expressway, Hidden Valley and Central Park, will open Thursday, while Chair 7 will open the following days.
With temperatures plunging as the end of the year approaches, crews at Big Bear area resorts have been utilizing snowmaking machines around the clock to provide fresh powder on the slopes of all three mountains.
Once Bear Mountain and Snow Summit are opened, they will remain open daily through the duration of the ski season. As part of opening week, free lift tickets are available for kids 12 and under from Dec. 6-12.
Those interested in taking in opening day at any of the Big Bear area mountain resorts is urged to have everything they need ahead of time, including lift tickets or season passes.
Anyone traveling into the Big Bear region should be aware of the ongoing closure of Highway 38 to Big Bear Lake, which was closed in September due to a significant mudslide. There is currently no estimate for when the roadway will be reopened.
“Travelers should use alternate routes such as Highway 18 through Lucerne Valley or Highway 330 through Running Springs and plan for extra travel time due to increased congestion,” Big Bear Mountain Resort officials said.
