Trump shooting live updates: FBI names suspect as it investigates rally shooting as assassination attempt
Federal investigators on Sunday were working to learn more about the man responsible for shooting at former President Donald Trump during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday, injuring him and causing him to be rushed offstage in a dramatic scene just days before he’s set to be nominated as the Republican presidential nominee.
Authorities identified the shooter as Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, but have yet to establish a motive for the shooting. Crooks was “neutralized” by the Secret Service, the agency said. Another member of the audience was also killed. Trump, who was rushed to the hospital, says he is “fine.” Video during the incident showed blood flowing from around his right ear.
“I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin,” he wrote on social media. “Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!””
Pittsburgh Special Agent in Charge Kevin Rojek labeled the shooting an assassination attempt Saturday night.
The House Committee on Oversight and Accountability said it is also planning to investigate the assassination attempt, and has called on Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to testify at a hearing later this month.
