Disney will close beloved Muppets attraction, but the characters aren’t going away
The Muppets will soon have a new home in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
To make room for the new dedicated Monsters, Inc. land announced over the summer, the park will shutter the existing Muppet*Vision 3D film attraction. Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy and other beloved characters will instead move to the park’s Sunset Boulevard area, where they’ll take over Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, one of the most popular rides in the park. The ride currently has an Aerosmith theme.
In the newly reimagined ride, Muppets characters will mingle with music stars for a music festival.
“We know so many of you share our love for The Muppets and know their energy will be a perfect fit for this coaster,” a Disney Parks Blog post read. “Plus, as the first Disney ride ever to feature The Muppets, there’s sure to be laughter, screams and new tunes for this attraction for fans to enjoy throughout the adventure and plenty of Muppets-themed merchandise on Sunset Boulevard!”
Disney did not specify when the changes would take place. The blog post said the company is “having creative conversations and exploring ways to preserve the film and other parts of the experience for fans to enjoy in the future.”
Construction on the Monsters, Inc. land is set to begin in 2025. A first of its kind at a Disney park, the area will feature a suspended coaster ride that takes riders through Laugh Factory doors, a new theater show, as well as dining and shopping.
