Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine orders flags to be lowered following Charlie Kirk’s death

Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine ordered the state’s flag be flown at half-staff following the death of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk, who was killed while speaking at a college campus in Orem, Utah.
Flags will be partially lowered on all state properties until 6 p.m. on Sept. 14. DeWine’s order mirrors similar announcements made by President Donald Trump and Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, made earlier in the day. DeWine had ordered flags be flown at half-staff earlier in the day to remember Sept. 11, and on Aug. 27 to remember the victims of a school shooting in Minneapolis.
Kirk was shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University. He was a political commentator responsible for founding Turning Point USA, an organization that pushes for conservative politics on high school and college campuses.
Trump announced his death on Truth Social after he was shot.
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval condemned the shooting, calling it “despicable” and “dangerous.”
