Western Kentucky shelter-in-place order lifted after chemical fire
HENDERSON, Ky. (FOX 56) — Communities in western Kentucky are breathing a sigh of relief after a shelter-in-place order was lifted following a chemical fire in southern Indiana.
Henderson and Daviess counties were under a voluntary shelter-in-place Saturday after a fire broke out at a manufacturing facility in Warrick County, Indiana.
The Ohio Township Fire Department said the blaze involved combustible metals like magnesium, aluminum, and zinc.
Officials with Warrick County Dispatch told FOX 56’s sister station WEHT that a call about the fire came in at 2:38 p.m.
The fire department was called to the 5200 block of Vann Road. Officials confirmed the fire is at a facility that does metal plating. The Ohio Township Fire Department said several environmental agencies were on site monitoring the air.
Officials with Vanderburgh County Emergency Management said an EFD HAZMAT team and several fire units were also sent to help.
