Temperatures are about to drop in Fresno as rain rolls in. Here’s what to expect
Fresno will finally get a break from scorching hot temperatures when a storm moves in next week, according to the National Weather Service.
The Fresno area could see cooler temperatures and even a little rain on Monday, Sept. 16.
“It will be cloudy and will get some sprinkles on Monday,” said Carlos Molina, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Hanford. “(There) may be enough rain to actually wet the ground …”
The last time Fresno saw any rain was Aug. 24, the weather service said, although it was only a sprinkle. That same storm brought snow to parts of the Sierra Nevada, including Yosemite National Park.
Unfortunately, next week’s storm won’t stick round for long, the weather service said.
“It’s going to be a one-day rain event for Fresno,” Molina said.
“We’ll still have some clouds Monday night into Tuesday morning,” he said, as well as cooler temperatures”.
“Once the storm moves out on Tuesday, temperatures will slowly start warming back up,” he said.
What’s in the weather forecast for Fresno?
Sunny weather is expected in Fresno on Saturday, according to the weather service’s seven-day forecast.
The high temperature will be near 93 degrees and the low temperature will be around 63.
Sunday will be sunny with a high near 86 and a low around 55.
Fresno can expect wind gusts as high as 20 mph on Sunday night, the weather service said.
When will the rain start?
On Monday morning, there is a 40% to 50% chance of rain in Fresno accompanied by a big dip in temperatures, according to the weather service.
The high on Monday will be near 73 degrees and a low will be around 54.
Once skies clear, Tuesday will see a high of 79 and an overnight low around 59, with winds around 5 mph.
“It is going to take a little bit longer for temperatures to get back up into the 90s,” Molina said, with temperatures “slightly warming as you go into the week.”
Are more showers coming to Fresno?
The rain is set to return on Wednesday as a storm rolls in from the Pacific Northwest, Molina said.
There’s a 20% chance of rain during the day as well as Wednesday night, the weather service said, in addition to winds up to 5 mph.
The high will be near 75 and the overnight low will be around 58.
“(The storm) may produce some clouds into our area, and it could give us maybe some sprinkles,” Molina said. “It doesn’t look like it’s going to amount very much …”
“The only one that has a very good chance of actually producing rain will be the one storm on Monday,” he added.
On Thursday, Fresno will see sunny weather once more with a high near 79, according to the weather service.
