Suspect shoots armored truck driver outside Kroger, takes $50K in cash
Police arrested a man accused of shooting and robbing an armored truck driver Monday outside a Kroger in Atlanta.
Investigators identified the suspect as 19-year-old Clinton Mayers, who was arrested in Forest Park. Video captured the suspect being taken into custody.
Atlanta officers responded to the grocery store at 2685 Metropolitan Parkway Monday just after 9 a.m.
Investigator said the suspect ambushed the driver and fired a shot that grazed his head. The man then got away with $50,000 and drove off in a Honda car.
Channel 2’s Michael Doudna spoke with a witness who said he saw the suspect waiting outside the Kroger.
“It’s crazy the things we see on TV and on movies you think it could never happen or not happen like that. It does,” Demonte Ramsey said. “It moved too smoothly for this just to be a random to ‘Oh, I’m coming to rob you.’”
The driver is expected to be OK, officials said.
The FBI has taken over the investigation, and charges are expected soon.
