Police investigate Beverly Hills stabbing that killed one man
Officers are investigating a homicide after a man was stabbed and killed in Beverly Hills on Saturday, according to police.
The Beverly Hills Police Department said a call came in around 2:51 p.m. reporting “unknown trouble” in the 100 block of Spalding Drive.
Responding officers found a man suffering from a stab wound at the scene. The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Initial findings show there was a confrontation between two men, one of whom is cooperating with the investigation.
A good Samaritan said he was driving by with family when he saw the suspect attacking a man who was holding a child.
The man pulled over to intervene, telling KTLA’s Rachel Menitoff “We realized we needed to do something.” He wants to remain anonymous but recounts what happened.
He said he drove up to the intersection where the attack was taking place and successfully startled the suspect, driving him away from the man and child.
As a family member went to check on the victims, the good Samaritan said the suspect came up to his car and tried to take his dog out of the back seat by her collar.
The man was able to get a hand on his dog, but there was a bit of a struggle before the suspect let go.
“I could see his face he just wasn’t registering what was going on, so I actually started punching him to get him to let go because he was in my car and he wasn’t even reacting to that,” he said.
The good Samaritan said he was finally able to get the dog’s collar off, and the suspect finally let go.
After this incident, the good Samaritan said the man ran off to a nearby building, trying to break in when the cops arrived and apprehended the suspect.
It is still unclear who stabbed whom, and who died as a result of their injuries.
Police say this is an active and ongoing investigation, and they are not providing any more insight into what happened on Friday. Any updates, they said, will come tomorrow.
Officers say there is no threat to public safety at this time.
The department encourages anyone with information about this incident to contact the Beverly Hills Police Department.
