Morgan Wallen’s abrupt exit from Saturday Night Live has become comedy inspiration for one of the show’s writers.

After leaving the March 29 sketch show episode before the rest of the cast and crew, Wallen, 31, posted a picture of a private jet, writing “Get me to God’s country” on his Instagram Stories.

In response on Sunday, March 30, SNL writer Josh Patten shared a picture on his Instagram Stories of a Krispy Kreme truck parked on a New York City street, with “Get me to God’s country” written beneath it, in a clear nod to Wallen’s post.

In later Stories, Patten also poked fun at himself, showing that five of Wallen’s tracks were actually among his own most-listened of 2023.

Oscar winner Mikey Madison made her SNL debut on the March 29 episode, poking fun at her stripper skills from the movie Anora. The show’s cold open also took aim at the Trump administration’s group chat incident that included Atlantic editor-in-chief Jeffrey Goldberg where “war plans” were discussed.

Wallen, meanwhile, performed “I’m the Problem” and “Just in Case,” both from his upcoming album I’m the Problem, due out on May 16.

At the end of the episode after Madison, 26, thanked the show’s cast and crew for “a wonderful time” at Studio 8H. Wallen then whispered something into her ear before abruptly walking offstage ahead of the show’s cast and crew, moving past the camera in front of the stage.

Not long after his quick exit, the “Whiskey Glasses” singer shared a picture of the private jet, captioned “get me to God’s country.”

A source close to Wallen told Variety that the country crooner enjoyed his time at SNL the previous week and that he had rehearsed the blocking of walking towards the camera as his exit all week. The singer didn’t mean to offend with his abrupt exit at the show’s conclusion or his Instagram Stories post.

The insider added that Wallen hadn’t put thought into his actions and how others would respond, emphasizing that there’s no ill will between him and the show amid any speculation of drama.

Wallen made his SNL debut in December 2020. He was originally supposed to appear on the show that October, but was disinvited from the sketch show after he was photographed kissing multiple women and partying maskless in Alabama, breaking the COVID-19 protocols the show had in place amid the pandemic.

“I’m not positive for COVID, but my actions this past weekend were pretty short-sighted and that have obviously affected my long-term goals and my dreams,” Wallen said in an Instagram video at the time, addressing his sudden removal from the show’s lineup.

“I respect the show’s decision because I know that I put them in jeopardy. I take ownership for this. I’d like to apologize to SNL, to my fans, to my team, for bringing me these opportunities and I let ’em down.”

During his debut that December, Wallen participated in a sketch that poked fun at the controversy, where his future self warned him about his actions.
