DA: U.S. airman from Eastham, Nicholas Sweetser, accused of rape, taken into custody
An Airman First Class of the U.S. Air Force was arraigned in Orleans District Court on Feb. 14 for two counts of rape and two counts of photographing an unsuspecting nude person, according to Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert Galibois’ office.
Nicholas Sweetser, 30, of Eastham, is being held without bail until a Tuesday hearing on the prosecutor’s motion to detain him as a danger to the community.
The U.S. Air Force sent an investigative report alleging multiple instances of sexual assault by Sweetser that happened in Massachusetts to the state police, according to a press release from Galibois’ office.
After reviewing the report, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office began its own investigation.
Sweetser was taken into custody without incident after the state police applied for and were granted an arrest warrant.
